influence is a good thing to have,it's better than having acne

I'm sorry but it is too late to visit Stephen Benwell's show at Niagara in Melbourne.Visit their website to view it. When I was studying ceramics in the eighties and looking at magazines to get a sense of what was going on and where I fit in the whole thing ,there were a few shiny things amongst the rubble that at that time constituted ceramics practise. Artists (potters? ) such as the above mentioned Stephen Benwell,Toni Warburton, Stefan Szonyi,Patsy Hely and Susan Ostling offered up examples of approaches to practise which seemed unallied to the dominant one on offer. I hope that some day someone can write a parallel history of Australian ceramics.
